  • Completed 2013

This new new public shelter and tourtist information centre was designed and delivered by PBWC Architects as part of a wider regeneration project for this historic seafront location on the island of St Mary's in the Isles of Scilly.

Named after a famous local shipreck the building is now known as the 'Schiller Shelter'. Set within a sensitively designed and biodiverse landscaped seafront promenade the building design is contemporary whilst meeting with the islands unique characteristics and setting. A significant amount of stakeholder and public consultation was undertaken which was instrumental in developing a shared vision that met the ambitions of the local community.

Planning for a remote island location presented challenges, but close coordination with contractors ensured that logistical and labour supply problems were overcome to create high quality buildings and places.

“PBWC Architects made our project really come alive! We couldn’t have asked for a better design team!”
