For over 50 years our practice has delivered an amazingly diverse range of leisure and hospitality projects, from fitness centres and swimming pools, to hotels and high-performance sport facilities.

From the refurbishment and creative re-use of existing facilities to large-scale new developments, we use our extensive experience to discover the potential of a place and support long-term sustainability by bringing new life to the local community and economy. While successfully raising the value of our client’s assets and delivering a return on their investment.

Simon studied architecture at Liverpool University before moving to London in 1990 to work on a wide range of projects including specialist housing for those with mental and physical disabilities, primary and secondary healthcare projects, sheltered housing and townhouse conversions. He has also illustrated a book on caring environments for the frail elderly and was privileged to work on Stephen Hawking’s private home in Cambridge.

Simon joined the practice in 1997 and has continued to lead a range of building types including schools and colleges, residential, sheltered housing, lifeboat stations and healthcare projects. These included Padstow, Appledore, Hoylake and Lytham St Annes lifeboat stations, the Sunrise Centre at Treliske and Carclaze primary school. Becoming a director in 2008 Simon is responsible for the Environmental and Quality Management Systems, Project and Practice Policies and Procedures and ISO9001 and ISO14001 accreditation. 

Simon is particularly interested in ensuring that the experience for those working at PBWC is positive and was instrumental in the plans for PBWC Architects to become an Employee-Owned Trust in 2019.

Laura joined PBWC Architects in 2023 and brings a wealth of experience to the practice. She is an Accredited Conservation Architect (AABC). Laura’s expertise lies in the adaptive re-use of existing buildings, and she is particularly skilled at bringing new life and contemporary design into historic buildings and settings.

Her portfolio includes large scale community and public buildings such as museums, visitor centers and libraries up to the value of £25m, as well as smaller scale projects including bespoke residential and house renovations.

Allen joined the practice in 1986 and has been responsible for leading projects within a wide range of sectors, including education, arts and cultural, shoreworks, as well as residential schemes from large scale specialist housing projects to bespoke family homes. Allen’s wealth of technical and construction experience informs his approach to sustainable early-stage concept design.

Josh joined Poynton Bradbury Wynter Cole Architects in 2014, finishing top of school with first-class degrees and a master's at the University of Plymouth.  Josh has worked on major projects across a range of public sectors, as well as for private clients and businesses, including arts and cultural projects, workplaces, intricate one-off-houses and extensions.

Josh’s has particular expertise and specialist skills in planning, and holds a keen interest in sustainable, context-considered design.

Josh is also part of the practice health and wellbeing working group and is passionate about inspiring the next generation of architects. He is responsible for our work experience programme, coordinating and managing summer work placements for local schools and colleges.

Tony Strike
On leaving Helston School, Tony studied full-time at Cornwall College for two... Read More

On leaving Helston School, Tony studied full-time at Cornwall College for two years and attained an OND in Building Studies.  Tony joined the practice in 1985 as a Junior Technician and continued his studies on a part-time basis to complete an HNC in Building Studies. 

Tony has continued to work for PBWC Architects and has progressed to Senior Architectural Technologist.  He has worked on all forms of projects from small, domestic extensions to multi-million-pound projects including shore works, education, healthcare, tourism, sports, industrial and office facilities.

Tony is also responsible for IT, working closely with an external provider and senior management to ensure the practice remains at the forefront of technological innovation and computing.
