PrivacyJournal
Welcome to the PBWC journal. A space where we celebrate our work, share our news, take an in-depth look into some of our projects, and discuss architectural topics. From awards to new client wins, our journal section offers an insight into our architectural practice and our projects, spanning the past 50 years.
One of our favourite journal entries is about the Sideshore development in Exmouth, Devon, which won Project of the Year at Michelmores Property Awards 2021. Judges were impressed with the project's commitment to sustainability, supporting the local economy, and working through a global pandemic. The project, which won the under £5million category, is a not-for-project development, built for the community and comprises of a watersports centre, a shop, takeaway food and drink outlets, and a restaurant.
One of our most significant pieces of news was in September 2022, when we signed up to the RIBA 2030 Climate Challenge. The challenge provides a stepped approach towards reaching net zero carbon for both new and retrofitted buildings by 2030.
As an architectural practice, it enables us to integrate sustainability into the heart of our design process. We assess our projects against performance targets with the aim of reducing operational energy, embodied carbon and potable water use, and improving health and wellbeing. These changes will not only present environmental benefits, but offer clients social and economic benefits such as reduced lifetime running costs and improved occupant health and wellbeing.
Since 1973, we have created successful, sustainable spaces across a range of industries with varying challenges. As an architectural firm, we design buildings and spaces that inspire, educate, and entertain people, whilst carefully considering the surrounding communities.
In 2023, we celebrated our 50th anniversary. Reaching this important milestone gave us the opportunity to not only look back at the past 50 years but also to consider the next 50 years for the practice, architecture, and the wider built environment context.
