With over 20 years experience at Poynton Bradbury Architects Cian has an extensive portfolio of completed projects that range from a £30 million re-development of the Callywith College campus in Bodmin to the sensitive intervention of Lizard Lifeboat station, Lizard Peninsula. Cian works with a variety of public and private clients and is currently the design lead for a £60m Estates Transformation Programme with Cornwall Council to support the delivery of post-Covid workspace facilities and public-facing services across the County.

In 2018 Cian also started providing Design Manager support to MWJV, the consultant consortium delivering building and professional services to Cornwall Council, coordinating all design aspects from the supply chain across a wide range of sectors including Housing, Economic growth, Education, Estates Transformation, Placeshaping and Regeneration for circa £250m of construction value per year.

Laura joined Poynton Bradbury Architects in 2023 and brings a wealth of experience to the practice. Her passion for architecture is focussed on creating sustainable, adaptable, and vibrant spaces thar respond to their surroundings and context. She has skills in contemporary design and has developed an architectural sensitivity in her approach to working in historic settings.

Registered as a RIBA Specialist Conservation Architect, Laura’s expertise lies in the adaptive re-use of existing buildings, and she is particularly skilled at bringing new life and contemporary design into historic buildings and settings. She has a comprehensive knowledge of conservation practice and extensive experience of applying this within historic buildings.

Laura’s portfolio is varied and includes large scale community and public buildings such as museums, visitor centres and libraries up to the value of £25m. Alongside this she has worked on intricate and smaller scale developments including bespoke new-build residential projects and one-off house renovations.

Chris joined Poynton Bradbury Architects in 2018 after working in London where he led the delivery of major mixed-use regeneration schemes in both the UK and abroad with project values of over £120m. Becoming a Director of the practice in 2021 Chris is now applying his passion for environmentally and socially responsible architecture and urban design to help shape the ethos and vision of the practice.

He has wide experience of public consultation processes and has repeatedly represented the practice during the engagement of complex and varied stakeholder groups, local authorities and review panels. Chris is responsible for several sectors including schools, urban regeneration, placemaking, later living and care.

Working with a wide range of private sector and local authority clients Chris is adept at taking their projects through complex planning processes and supporting them to create truly transformative places.

Simon studied architecture at Liverpool University before moving to London in 1990 to work on a wide range of projects including specialist housing for those with mental and physical disabilities, primary and secondary healthcare projects, sheltered housing and townhouse conversions. He has also illustrated a book on caring environments for the frail elderly and was privileged to work on Stephen Hawking’s private home in Cambridge.

Simon joined the practice in 1997 and has continued to lead a range of building types including schools and colleges, residential, sheltered housing, lifeboat stations and healthcare projects. These included Padstow, Appledore, Hoylake and Lytham St Annes lifeboat stations, the Sunrise Centre at Treliske and Carclaze primary school. Becoming a director in 2008 Simon is responsible for the Environmental and Quality Management Systems, Project and Practice Policies and Procedures and ISO9001 and ISO14001 accreditation. 

Simon is particularly interested in ensuring that the experience for those working at Poynton Bradbury is positive and was instrumental in the plans for PBWC Architects to become an Employee-Owned Trust in 2019.

Andrew joined Poynton Bradbury Wynter Cole Architects in 2017 after a career change from working as a Carpenter. His construction site experience provides enormous value to his role as an Architectural Technician and since working at the practice he has provided technical support on a number of significant projects such as The Liner luxury apartment building in Falmouth and a programme of school expansion projects.

Anja brings nearly two decades of architectural expertise to our team, with a rich portfolio spanning diverse sectors such as housing, transportation, commercial, and leisure across London and Cornwall.

Holding an architectural degree from Germany, Anja honed her skills at an internationally acclaimed firm in Hamburg before joining our innovative practice in London. Here, she played a pivotal role in spearheading major housing and transportation projects.

Anja's proficient design, technical and management skills are incorporated into all RIBA work stages and making her a valued member of this practice.

Ben is a certified Passivhaus designer and leads the PBWC Architects Sustainability Working Group, helping to ensure that all our projects are delivered to meet the highest environmental standards. As the PBWC Environmental Manager, Ben is also responsible for ensuring that Atlantic Studio and PBWC Architects operate in a holistically sustainable manner and in accordance with ISO14001.

Ben is passionate about contemporary architecture and environmentally led design and enjoys helping shape and deliver projects that capture these aspirations and make positive contributions to our built environment.

Carl has a wealth of experience on large commercial and residential projects in the North West of England for national and international clients as well as together with local authorities. During his time at PBWC, he has successfully completed several projects, including the Tamar Crossing Offices, ESAM Advanced Manufacturing office and industrial building, Exmouth Watersports Centre, The Liner, Ocean View apartments, and Launceston College’s new science teaching building.

Carl brings extensive knowledge of Building Information Modelling (BIM) and the delivery of projects through BIM software alongside leading the practice’s BIM Management and Implementation program. As a senior member of the practice Carl is able to manage multi-disciplinary teams and complex client groups, nurturing strong project team relationships and ensuring that design remains central to the delivery process,

After completing her degree in Interior Architecture and Design at the University of Lincoln, Caroline began her architectural career as a designer for a leading UK MMC timber frame manufacturer where she gained technical detailing and construction experience on a range of projects for high-profile clients such as the Duchy of Cornwall. Caroline has gained a keen eye for bespoke detailing through working on one-off bespoke residential homes and has a deeply rooted interest in sustainable practice.

Caroline has recently graduated with distinction and gained her RIBA Part One through the practice based RIBA Studio program and has been nominated for the 2024 RIBA Bronze Medal Award for her final year project.

Dhaval holds a strong interest in low carbon and sustainable design solutions and has a diverse wealth of skills beyond architecture that include model-making, graphics, product design and 3D visualisation. Since joining PBWC Architects in October 2022 Dhaval has worked on a number of regeneration and public sector projects in Cornwall including a Town Deal funded co-working project in Camborne and a new Cornwall Council integrated services hub for Bodmin town centre.

His passion for architecture and the built environment stems from a background in creative woodworking projects, graphic design, and fine arts.

Emma studied at the Canterbury School of Architecture before joining Poynton Bradbury Wynter Cole Architects in July 2000 and completing her training with Plymouth University in 2003.  She has a wide range of experience leading on projects encompassing public buildings, schools, community buildings and historic properties with diverse and complex client groups ranging from local authorities to charity-based community groups and the private sector. 

With a keen interest and extensive experience in conservation architecture and historic buildings, Emma was formally recognised with entry onto the RIBA Conservation Register at the Conservation Architect level. Emma is a regular speaker for the Firm Foundations Programme provided by Cornwall Museums Partnership.

Iain studied at the Mackintosh School of Architecture in Glasgow, winning in 1990 the City of Glasgow Medal, a RIAS Commendation and two Scholarships, one of which was used to complete his Master’s degree as an extension to the Architectural Diploma.

Before joining PBWC Architects in 2003, Iain worked in London on several award-winning projects. Since joining, he has led a number of large projects multi-million-pound projects, including the NHS women’s and children’s hospital, Chy Trevail, Town deal projects, Falmouth University Master planning, Cornwall College Master planning, The Brunel Building, and more alongside his Lecturer role held at Falmouth School of Architecture.

Isobel joined PBWC Architects in November 2021 after a period of living and working in London on both new-build and refurbishment projects, from bespoke super-prime residential schemes to mixed-use residential masterplans.

Isobel is an experienced project leader and enjoys working closely with clients to help articulate and define a brief that is unique to every project. She is currently enjoying working on projects in her native Cornwall and using her lunch breaks to swim in the sea.

Jacob joined the practice in 2014 shortly after graduating from the Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL. Since then, he led a diverse range of projects for a number of private and commercial clients across Cornwall alongside his Associate Lecturer role held at Falmouth School of Architecture. 

Jacob has in-depth experience in digital technologies including 3D lidar scanning and BIM and has written extensively for AEC magazine. He is currently managing the practice’s transition to B-Corp certification which will assess the practice’s business impact on people and the planet alongside profit.

Jason joined the practice in 2019 as a Part 1 Architectural Assistant after graduating from Falmouth University. Since then, Jason has gained experience on a wide range of projects covering the South West including schools, sports facilities, residential, masterplanning, later living, adult socialcare and public sector services. He is keen to continue his studies and hopes to achieve a RIBA Part II qualification in the near future.

Jess joined PBWC Architects in 2019 after graduating with her BA(Hons) in Interior Design at Falmouth University.  Since joining the team, Jess has been able to expand her versatile skillset across a wide range of projects including regeneration schemes such as the £25m Truro Town Deal project as well as community-led placeshaping projects, bespoke one-off houses and residential housing.  

Jess’s strengths lie in spatial design and graphic communication, which she is currently applying during a secondment with Cornwall Council as a Spatial Planner and Architectural Technician.  Jess is always dedicated to producing the best outcomes for every project and is passionate about creating environments which shape the best possible user experience.

Jess is also instrumental in helping to coordinate and produce bid submissions for the practice, as well as using her graphic skills to assist in the production of marketing material and print collateral.

John returned to the UK from Australia to work with PBWC Architects in November 2016.

After initially graduating in Western Australia with a degree in Finance and Management, John worked in London’s banking and investment sector. Returning to Australia, he retrained with an Advanced Diploma in Building Design which involved a six month exchange programme to complete level four of the Constructing Architect course at VIA University in Horsens, Denmark. 

After completing his training John has gained extensive technical design experience across a variety of project sizes and sectors. In particular John has extensive experience of managing, coordinating and documenting projects within BIM and has helped shaped the implementation and improvement of the practices Revit workflows.

John has a passion for buildings designed with a focus on construction efficiency and energy performance and how design technology can assist with improvements in these areas.

Joanna joined the practice in 1994 after gaining her secretarial qualifications at Cornwall College. She is responsible for the administrative side of Poynton Bradbury Wynter Cole Architects, including invoicing, payroll, and accounts. In her spare time, Joanna is a keen cyclist and often leads local club rides around West Cornwall.

Josh joined Poynton Bradbury Wynter Cole Architects in 2014, finishing top of school with first-class degrees and a master's at the University of Plymouth.  Josh has worked on major projects across a range of public sectors, as well as for private clients and businesses, including arts and cultural projects, workplaces, intricate one-off-houses and extensions.

Josh’s has particular expertise and specialist skills in planning, and holds a keen interest in sustainable, context-considered design.

Josh is also part of the practice health and wellbeing working group and is passionate about inspiring the next generation of architects. He is responsible for our work experience programme, coordinating and managing summer work placements for local schools and colleges.

Josie joined PBWC in 2018 having graduated with a distinction in her master's degree at the University of Sheffield.  She previously worked in London gaining experience in the private residential, mixed-use, and masterplanning sectors.

Whilst undertaking her thesis project, Josie developed a passion for older people’s housing and care.  Her research into how architects can use design to improve quality of life by avoiding social isolation and loneliness amongst residents informs her approach to practice today within the Later Living and Care team. She also has a strong interest in environmentally sustainable design and plays a key role within the practice’s Sustainability Group, primarily providing support with implementing the practice's committments as signatories to the RIBA 2030 Climate Challenge.

Josie qualified as an Architect in 2022 after gaining a distinction in her training at the University of West England, Bristol.

Justina has a passion for schools projects and has gained extensive experience on Cornwall Council's programme of primary and secondary school expansion across the county. 

She is also a key member of the professional practice working group responsible for digital information management and document control. Justina has become a specialist in integrating BIM workflows with our in-house document control software Newforma, ensuring compliance with our Environmental and Quality Management Systems.

Justina has recently graduated from the work-based study program, RIBA studio, gaining her RIBA Part II qualification, and receiving a distinction for her final year project. 

Louis, a Part I Architectural Assistant, brings a fresh perspective to the practice after his graduation from the Welsh School of Architecture (WSA) in 2023. His passion lies in the transformative potential of adaptive building reuse, coupled with a keen focus on understanding the profound impact of structures within their contextual environment and their contribution to creating vibrant and meaningful spaces.
Returning to WSA to pursue his Part II studies in the MArch course, Louis aims to further enrich his professional journey. His aspiration is to broaden his collaborative skills, gaining valuable experience in team dynamics and fostering a more comprehensive understanding of architectural practice.

Matt has been with Poynton Bradbury Wynter Cole since 2018, following 13 years working in local practices in Cornwall.

Matt has experience of leading extra-care housing, care and retirement living projects, as well as social and private housing, schools and hospital projects.  He has a particular interest in health and wellbeing and how good design can improve the lives of building occupants and users. Matt has a postgraduate diploma in conservation and has gained specialist skills and knowledge through working on a number of listed and historically important ecclesiastical projects.

Matt is also the practice’s Employee Owned Trust employee representative, ensuring that the ethos and direction of the practice is to the benefit of all. Following his role of RIBA Cornwall Branch Chair in 2014 Matt remains the RIBA Branch Treasurer.

Milly is a Part II Architectural Assistant with experience in architecture, the public realm and landscape design and research. She joined PBWC Architects in 2022 and since graduating from the University of Plymouth in 2012 has worked on projects in the Southwest, London, Athens, and Australia.

Designing in diverse contexts has sparked a particular interest in place and vernacular architecture. Throughout her work, there has always been a focus on the adaptive reuse of buildings and spaces to make them sustainable, relevant and useful to our changing needs.

Milly is one of the founding cohort of the London School of Architecture and graduated with distinction. Her thesis explored our relationship with public buildings. She enjoyed being part of developing the culture at the school which seeks to bring architectural education and employment together in a collaborative environment.

Paul qualified from Bristol University in 1981 and, after four years working for a broad-based practice in Birmingham, he set up a small practice which grew and developed for fourteen years.  A move to the Cotswolds brought increased interest in building conservation and in 2001 a Postgraduate Diploma in Building Conservation from the Architectural Association, London came from two years of hard study.  In 2003 a long-standing desire to move to Cornwall was fulfilled by joining PBWC Architects.  His continued work in the field of building conservation was recognised by inclusion on both the registers of Architects Accredited in Building Conservation and RIBA Accredited Specialist Conservation Architects, both at the highest level.  

As well as a passion for the sensitive conservation of historic buildings, Paul relishes the challenges of managing change in heritage settings which good conservation often involves.

Paul joined PBWC in 2019 after gaining experience in Devon working on a variety of residential and community projects. Paul is currently undertaking his Part III studies at the University of the West of England alongside his work at PBWC Architects.

Paul has provided valuable experience on the major public sector projects he has been involved with, helping implement collaborative working and information exchange processes to ensure the delivery of BIM level 2.  In his spare time Paul enjoys drawing, hiking, film, and photography and spends many of his weekends exploring the rich landscape and culture of Cornwall with his family and friends.

Russ boasts over 40 years of experience as an Architectural Technologist, working in private practice and for local authorities, developers and contractors.

His wide-ranging experience encompasses residential, commercial, industrial, retail, transport, education, veterinary, healthcare, food production and Ministry of Defence projects. These projects range from small refurbishment works to multi-million-pound new build developments. 

Working as part of a wider delivery team Russ provides technical expertise, research and analysis with the aim to always improve the buildability and efficiency of any proposed construction systems and detailing.

After obtaining an ONC in Building Studies in 1983 at Tresham College, Russ went on to graduate from Leicester Polytechnic in 1985 with an HNC in Building Studies from Leicester Polytechnic.

Sarah lives in St Ives and joined PBWC Architects in 2001 after completing a Business and Finance course at Cornwall College. She supports Joanna on the administrative side of the Poynton Bradbury Wynter Cole Architects and is a key member of the team.

On leaving Helston School, Tony studied full-time at Cornwall College for two years and attained an OND in Building Studies.  Tony joined the practice in 1985 as a Junior Technician and continued his studies on a part-time basis to complete an HNC in Building Studies. 

Tony has continued to work for PBWC Architects and has progressed to Senior Architectural Technologist.  He has worked on all forms of projects from small, domestic extensions to multi-million-pound projects including shore works, education, healthcare, tourism, sports, industrial and office facilities.

Tony is also responsible for IT, working closely with an external provider and senior management to ensure the practice remains at the forefront of technological innovation and computing.
